“8 Strangers. 8 Points of View. 1 Truth.”
Staking out new movies in theatres worth watching online is one of my “whoooza” (read: relaxing) past times. Whichever catches my fancy gets listed down on my “to watch” list, movies that I think have exceptional quality and worth watching with Buboy. So last Sunday, I grabbed my all-nighter bag and hopped on the next airconditioned Ceres bus to Bacolod with one thing in mind: to watch the movie currently ranked number 1 on my list — Vantage Point.
I arrived on a rainy evening at Bacolod. The weather, however, cannot dampen my spirit because not only was a sumptuous meal at Palapala waiting for me, but also Buboy as well, together with Ray and Manong Mike (who drove us to SM once all the food had been consumed save for a platter full of shrimps and the bill settled). With a full stomach (what better way to watch a movie!), we directly went to SM’s cinema theatres, purchased 3 “babaw” (Ilonggo term for a deluxe theater accommodation) Vantage Point movie tickets and find seats that best suited our liking.
True to its trailer, the movie is in itself a Box-Office leader. Unlike the other movies I’ve seen so far, this one uses the effect of the subjectivity of a person’s perception based on recollection, by which the 8 observers of the movie’s landmark Summit event are able to produce 8 substantially different but equally reasonable, valid accounts of it. In this movie, Angie (Zoe Saldana) is a field reporter covering the Summit held in Palanca, Spain, whose TV News Producer Rex Brooks (Sigourney Weaver) was shown to have given her best efforts to contain an organized chaos in the world of media reporting just to deliver the news and facts about the conference as it is. Two Secret Service Agents Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) who took a bullet for the President a year prior to the Summit and who became a rogue operative, respectively, were assigned to protect President Ashton (William Hurt). Amongst the crowd is an American tourist named Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker) who was there to witness the historic event. He video taped the crowd: the children perched on the edge of the windows, a man (Eduardo Noriega) talking to his girlfriend; met a fellow tourist (Saïd Taghmaoui) and Anna. The 1 truth behind the assassination attempt of the President’s life can only be revealed by following each person’s perspective. Mind you, I laughed when the 5th vantage point was rehashed. Tell me you did, you’ll know once you’ve seen the movie (*wink*).
Indeed, this one is an action-packed thriller of which I gave a rating of 5/5. A must see movie for you, your loved ones, your family and friends. Come share with me your opinion and rating of this movie.

Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the day the Filipino People collectively rose up as one nation to topple the authoritarian regime of the Marcoses.

The People Power Revolution (also known as the EDSA Revolution and the Philippine Revolution of 1986) was a series of nonviolent and prayerful mass street demonstrations in the Philippines that occurred in 1986. It is sometimes referred to as the Yellow Revolution due to presence of yellow ribbons during the arrival of Ninoy Aquino. These protests were the culmination of a long resistance by the people against the 20-year running authoritarian regime of then current president Ferdinand Marcos and made news headlines as “the revolution that surprised the world.” The majority of the demonstrations took place at Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, known more commonly by its acronym EDSA, in Quezon City, Metropolitan Manila and involved over 200,000 Filipino civilians as well as several political and military figures. The protests, fueled by a resistance and opposition of years of corrupt governance by Marcos, occurred from February 22 to 25 in 1986, when Marcos fled Malacañang Palace to the United States and conceded to Corazon Aquino as President of the Philippines.
Around this time in 1986, I was still a kid running around, without a care in the world. I have always been fascinated of this event in the history of the Filipinos and have always been looking for books and documentaries about this historic event. If anyone knows of a site where we could read more about this or view more photos, please don’t hesitate to post a comment. Thank You.

I am a sucker for good movies. Well, Borski and I both are. One of the things we like to do is watch a good movie together, sometimes marathon sessions of TV miniseries episodes. Currently, we are somewhere on the eighth episode of the second season of Grey’s Anatomy. I think she relates to it on a more personal level because of her dream to be a doctor.
Last Saturday, Borski took time off from work to unwind and accompany me on my trip to Cebu. I had to go back to Electroworld at SM Cebu to have the power cable of my laptop replaced. She wanted to tag along for the trip saying, “I need the change of scenery, it’s getting too stressful at work.” I am glad she came with me as we both enjoyed the trip even if it was just a quick in and out. We left at 5:15am via a “fastcraft” through Sibulan port, and an aircon bus was waiting for us on the other side. We were already in Cebu city around 9:15am and we had to wait for SM to open. After having my power cable replaced, we checked out the screening hours of the cinemas to see if we could squeeze in a movie before going home. Lucky for us, first screening of the movie Jumper was in time for us to catch the 2pm aircon bus ride back to Liloan.
Jumper didn’t receive good reviews from critics. Nevertheless, we were looking forward to watching it after seeing its movie trailer. The movie revolved around the character of David Rice, played by Hayden Christensen (the young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars 3 Revenge of the Sith), a jumper—meaning someone who can teleport through places, much like Hiro Nakamura from Heroes. The conflict in the movie involved the Paladins, who were the sworn enemies of jumpers, with the most recognizable Paladin played by Samuel L. Jackson (another admired actor of mine from the movies Rules of Engagement and The Negotiator). From the trailer, I was expecting to see a full-scale blown out war between the 2 sides, only to find out that it was all hyped up in the trailer. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the movie, and on my personal scale, I give it a rating of 3 stars out of 5..hehehe..
