Filtering Out

Published by andoyitok under Blogging

The banner headline on todays Inquirer reads, “And Then There Were 8,” in reference to the filtering out of the nuisance candidates who applied for the position of President of the Republic of the Philippines. On a personal note, I find the current state of the nation’s politics a sad, sad picture. Everytime I chance upon some ads of select presidential candidates, I can’t help but think how some of these people have the nerve to be even out there. They have so gotten used to the lies they peddle, that somehow I guess they even managed to fool themselves into thinking that they are what the country needs right now.

I wish it were as easy as filtering out water to weed ourselves of these people. Then, all we’d need would be a wf2cb water filter. Now, wouldn’t that be a relief?

To Borski: Please Download :)

Published by andoyitok under Movies and Travel

Last night, as I was scrolling through channels, I came upon the TV program America’s Best Dance Crew (ABDC) and was captivated at once. I have already seen some previous episodes of that show but haven’t quite managed to watch an entire season.

I hope I can download all past 4 seasons of that show, as I know it will make up for a nice bonding session in front of the TV during the upcoming Christmas season.

Bring out the popcorn, guys!

Becoming Santa

Published by andoyitok under Blogging

For quite a while now, my sister Ellen has been bugging me to already upgrade my laptop after she saw my screen flickering. This malfunction has gone on for quite some time now and sometimes I do get annoyed when it happens. Usually, I just adjust the flip lid of my laptop until the flickering stops. I haven’t tried and researched this problem online yet, blame it on my procrastination. I guess I am just basically waiting for it to become unmanageable before I do something more serious about it like see a technician. For now, I am still quite satisfied with its performance.

The reason why Ellen keeps bugging me though, is that she wants me to buy a netbook, so that in turn, she could have my old laptop. As compared to a laptop, netbooks are small, light weight, low cost, highly portable, energy efficient alternatives. For someone who is mostly on the go all the time, this techie gadget would certainly make a lot of sense right now.

So now, she is asking me to be her Santa. LoL.

Beating Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Published by andoyitok under Health and Fitness, Sports

I am a self -confessed Manny Pacquiao fan, and a die-hard one at that. It figures, right? After all, I am a Filipino. Aside from that though, I do believe that there is more to my rooting for him than just my being a fellow countryman of his. I, together with many others, believe that Manny embodies the many traits that has allowed him to carry on being Boxing’s new poster boy. His exciting style of fighting has earned him a following of fans from all over the world.

Just this afternoon, I watched a downloaded clip of Mayweather’s bout with Ricky Hatton in 2007. In contrast with Pacquiao’s brand of play, I do think that Pretty Boy Floyd’s style is somewhat boring at times, although one would have to acknowledge the superb defense that he possesses. Unlike Pacman who throws countless combinations, he pot shots and then ties up his opponents, making for perfect recipe for a boring fight, plus he runs and runs and runs. I came across this article by Marv Dumon, wherein he enumerates the things Manny has to do to beat Floyd.

One pic he had on there surely amused me. I do hope Manny doesn’t have to resort to this in order to make Floyd fight him toe to toe. LoL.

Valuing What You Have

Published by andoyitok under Blogging

As we go through life, we certainly take some things for granted. These things my take the tangible form of people close to us, or the intangible moments that we  let pass by. Charge it on perhaps my age getting the better of me, but I would certainly like to think that I have some measure of maturity in me. Somehow, I have come to look at things from an entirely different perspective than say, 5 years ago. I have come to the realization that what we have, can all be taken away from just in just a snap of a finger. In that way, it keeps me grounded, and hopefully value the many gifts and blessings that I have. Like loose diamonds, moments we have with our loved ones should be cherished, for we never know what would happen in the future. As Ralph Waldo Emerson would put it,

Guard well your spare moments.  They are like uncut diamonds.  Discard them and their value will never be known.  Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.

My brother the Bartender

Published by andoyitok under Family, Foodtrip

My brother Andrew will be leaving for the US come March of next year, courtesy of a study and work program in the USA wherein local universities in the Philippines are partnering with Hotels and Restaurants in the USA to invite on-the-job trainees to come work for them on a limited engagement. In a way, this will be an opportunity for students to be exposed to a different culture oceans apart, as well as a glimpse into the real world out there.

Personally, I do hope my brother is equipped to hurdle life’s challenges on his own in the big world out there that is America. One thing I am sure of, he will be missing home cooking while he will be out there. :)

Time for a Vacation

Published by andoyitok under Blogging, Movies and Travel

Now that the year is almost over, wouldn’t it be nice if there was some way that we could unwind. Just unwind. In the pure sense of the word. Just leaving your worries in the wind and be as carefree as possible. Sure we have toiled for yet another year, I guess we owe it to ourselves to give ourselves a break, after all, what is the point of all the toiling and hard work, right?

A cousing of mine is thinking of florida vacations, to the Walt Disney World. As for Borski and myself, I think we will setting our sights on something a lot closer, say Hongkong Disneyland? :)
