Can you please repeat the numbers again?
“194 lbs,” I reiterated.
Early this morning after taking his bath, I requested Ian to step on our personal weighing scale (a gift from Ray-mart and Edward) so I can check on his weight. Even though he raised both of his arms up in the effort of weighing lighter, the numbers are still the same. Oh my! He gained weight that fast!
We’ve been keeping track of his weight because we have to keep his weight on the normal body mass index side. With this achieved, Ian would be able to keep diabetes at bay, which is a common family historical condition.
During our afternoon walk, Ian suggested that we buy green tea so that he can help his body return back to its normal, even increase if possible, his metabolic rate by drinking green tea. It will not surprise me if there will come a time that he may want to try fat burners, too, but the exercise enthusiast in me kicked in and so I insisted that he not only start drinking up green tea but also couple it with him moving his body, sweating it out and burning more calorie by exercising even just 30 minutes daily (religiously, let me repeat) to rev up his metabolic engine. Of course, he should eat more protein, low-glycemic-index carbohydrates in the form of vegetables, most fruits and a modest amount of whole grains. No dieting; no more chronic yo-yo dieting because this just slows down metabolism some more. Just the right amount of food (read: eat moderately) and more exercise, especially now that we’re almost 30. Studies show that after age 30, metabolism slows down and drops about 0.5% per year.
For my part (hmmm), I would cut down the number of times I would be serving him sweet desserts (e.g., ice cream topped with cubed brownies, mango float) whenever he’s at home on his days off; chips or junk food won’t be present in our cupboard anymore, too. This would be my share of helping him trim down.
