Keeping up with Traditions

Our environment generally shapes who we are. The culture we have been borne into would somehow dictate how we should act, and it is there that we define what is within the bounds of ‘normal’ and what is not.

Just recently, Frank, a friend of mine and someone who I am constantly in contact with in the conduct of my job had welcomed a new addition to his family, a bouncing baby girl.

I don’t know about the cultures from other countries, but it is not common practice here in the Philippines for new dads to hand out Davidoff cigars, as was suddenly the case when another friend, Jay, began chiding him to hand out cigars, in celebration of this welcome development. Of course, another important aspect to consider would be that Frank is Chinese, and Jay is an American.  Perhaps where they come from, this is perfectly the norm.
