Possible Davao getaway!
As I may have already mentioned in an earlier post, I am applying for a transfer to another department of ours, the drilling department.
Just last Monday, I dropped by our HR department to inquire on the status of my application, and to get an update how things are progressing. I asked my supervisor, Engr. Bambi, to come with me and help me by lawyering for me, he being familiar with the often long and tedious process of transferring to other sites/departments, having just transferred to our site just 2 years ago.
The HR supervisor joked with Engr. Bambi and chided him as to why he was intent on helping me process my transfer, perhaps he was in a hurry to get rid of me. LOL. After this exchange of jokes, the HR supervisor jokingly told Engr. Bambi that I would be released only after our annual invitational badminton games.
I wasn’t actually thinking that our annual badminton games would still push through this year as our company has just been recently privatized, and we still didn’t know the concrete direction the new management is heading towards. If it pushes through, this will be the third straight year that we will be having our games. The first one was held in our head office in Manila, and the second one was held in Leyte last year, and I have been quite fortunate to have gone to visit our other sites as a result of participating in these games. This year, the host site would be our Mindanao site in Kidapawan, but I think the games will just be held in Davao. I just learned too that the host site is already doing the costing and planning of this event as representatives from many sites would be travelling there and there would be things to be arranged like the travel arrangements, lodging accommodations, among others.
I think there is a snag in that this year, I think they are thinking of cutting costs and they are evaluating the possibility of the participants travelling by boat. If you ask me, personally I think it would still be advantageous to travel by plane as the company would still be able to save on the man-hours, and the difference between the plane and boat fares is no longer that substantial, what with the current trend of airlines that are offering a lot of flight deals nowadays.
If the games push through, Borski and I will be in Davao around the 2nd week of June. I have already spoken with her, and she is ecstatic at the prospect of that getaway. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
