I am feeling a bit spontaneous today. Perhaps I just woke up on the right (or wrong) side of the bed. However, not the kind of spontaneous to make me wanna go bungee jump. That one needs more than me waking up on the right side of the bed.

What I had in mind was buying and pampering Borski with these hand-made zoo animal chocolate pops. Why? Just because.

I wanna treat her to a week-long vacation, where she has nothing to do but just relax and enjoy, sipping a cocktail, and just lounging by the beach. She more than deserves it.

A taste of Cebu’s famous Danggit

Before heading off to our 5-day vacation in Davao last Saturday, Borski and I dropped by Cebu’s Taboan market to buy our pasalubong for our in laws.

We were quite surprised to discover that there was a very large price discrepancy on this commodity. In Market2x where I frequent, the price for a 100-gram pack is PhP100, so 1 kilo would cost around PhP1000. However, at Taboan market, the price for 1 kilo of unsalted Danggit was just at PhP540, or almost 50% that of the price in Market-Market. I guess that would be because they still have to ship it out to Manila, but I don’t think it would make that much of a difference in the price. Anyway, from now on, if we get a chance to pass by Cebu, I would make sure to drop by and buy this Cebuano native product.

The battle of the bulge

No, I do not mean the famous battle from World War II. More like the battle with the lovehandles. LoL. Manong Andrew has just came back from his work-and-travel on-the-job-training experience and guess what! He has gained more pounds. When chided about it, he just tells us that that was his way of coping with the loneliness being away from home, and food was his solace, in a way. However, as Borski and I were talking about this many times over dinner, we have both come to a common understanding that this was his way of covering up for gaining weight, also considering that he had only access to processed food.

Now that he is back home, he has been on a personal mission to lose weight fast. We had dinner together the past couple of nights and indeed he has been keeping a lid on his food intake, and has been religiously going at it in the gym for the past two weeks now. Way to go! Errr…and it’s about time I do too.

My brother the Bartender

My brother Andrew will be leaving for the US come March of next year, courtesy of a study and work program in the USA wherein local universities in the Philippines are partnering with Hotels and Restaurants in the USA to invite on-the-job trainees to come work for them on a limited engagement. In a way, this will be an opportunity for students to be exposed to a different culture oceans apart, as well as a glimpse into the real world out there.

Personally, I do hope my brother is equipped to hurdle life’s challenges on his own in the big world out there that is America. One thing I am sure of, he will be missing home cooking while he will be out there.
