Maxoderm: An alternative for men

Published by andoyitok under Blogging, Health and Fitness

Buzz is going around in the cosmetic surgery community of the Philippines after an American named Louem Martinez aka. Louem Boschuk filed a criminal complaint against popular cosmetic surgeons in the country.

The complainant filed this complaint asking for PhP 26 million against Doctors Manny V. Calayan and Pie Calayan due to a penile enlargement operation gone wrong. This operation was said to have cost around PhP 145,000 (roughly $3,450). Martinez claimed that after the operation his penis became “badly deformed, sagged and bumped,” and that he was feeling pain. Despite assurances by both doctors that the pain will go away, still the pain persisted and the appearance of his penis did not change.

—-

Hearing of this news, I just think that the complainant would have been better off researching first on the other alternative ways to get a penile enlargement. For one, there are products such as maxoderm.

On the internet, he could have easily researched on maxoderm review to be more informed as to what the best course of action would be. If he had, he might have discovered that there are already maxoderm pills, which is a far cry from the physical risk he undertook on the surgical procedure that went wrong.

If you ask me, I think it can be likened to jumping without looking. Too bad it didn’t work out for Mr. Martinez as planned.

To augment or not to augment

Published by andoyitok under Blogging, Health and Fitness

That is the question.

At least for over 70% of women, which the statistics say, are unhappy with their breasts. Whether it be the size of their breasts, firmness, or the shape. Statistics also show that many believe that the best option for breast enhancement and enlargement is getting breast implants. What many do not know is that getting breast implants is not the only option to get bigger breasts.

Whereas some of the benefits of getting a breast implant include being able to choose the exact size you want as well as being able to see the results right after surgery, the downside of that particular option is that the procedure in itself is expensive (costing around $3500+), takes a long recovery time, and unless you go to the best plastic surgeons, breast implants can look lumpy and uneven. There are many potentially life threatening health hazards, including swollen and tender glands under the arms, recurrent unexplained low-grade fever, hair loss, skin rash, memory loss, headaches, chest pain, shortness of breath, and even death.

The sad fact about all these is that women are willing to take those risks, because they believe that being happy with their breasts will change their life, and for some it does. Having the breasts you always wanted can make you more confident, happier, and more comfortable in your own skin.

Well, for those looking for other safer alternative methods, the net is always a handy tool to aid us on our quest to get informed. There are actually a lot of other safer alternative methods to get the breast size one wants.

Did you know that they have already invented a gum that promotes breast enhancement? I am talking about zoft gum, a breast enhancement gum that promotes the reactivation and proliferation of the necessary hormones. In effect, it stimulates the body to produce new breast tissue growth.

How about a recommended diet to enlarge one’s breasts? Yup, I am talking about breast enhancement foods. Now, some folks have never heard of breast enhancement food before, but there is a whole range of traditional spices that have been used for as long as anyone remembers to help boost vitality and estrogen production in women. One of these breast enhancement foods is fennel. If you dine out at an Indian restaurant on a regular basis, you should be quite familiar with fennel seeds. They are a major component of Indian cooking and are often served by themselves as an appetizer. Enjoying one serving
a day of fennel seeds as a snack not only serves as a tasty alternative to a more fattening snack, but also a great way to get your estrogen juices flowing. It is truly a breast enhancement food! Now wouldn’t it be a whole lot easier to eat your way to a larger, firmer, and more enhance breasts?

Anyone who is thinking of getting a breast implant would do well to check out these other safer alternative methods. I do hope this has been helpful in informing women out there.

Well, if anyone asks me regarding this topic, I think I’d go with Sheryl Crow’s lyrics on this one..and it goes a lil’ something like, “If it makes you happy…”

Again, to each his own. Or in this case, her own. :)

Migraines and Botox

Published by andoyitok under Blogging, Health and Fitness

Part of the benefits of blogging that I have come to enjoy is the added chance to get to know whatever subjects there is out there. Through blogging, I have come to learn a lot of things, from the trivial, to the more general subjects. Yup, learning that is unconfined to the bounds of the 4 walls of the classroom.

Uhmmm..come to think of it, its been ages (and I mean ages) since I have stepped within the familiar walls of a classroom. So in a way, it has taken a bit of an adjustment on my part, but one which I have welcomed with open arms. :)

Anyway, back to the subject at hand: Botox. What is it and what is it for?

Before writing this post, I am pretty sure I have heard it before, but like the average person, I guess it didn’t quite strike my curiosity before, which explains why I have never exerted effort to learn whatever it is.
So, for the benefit of the average person (including me) out there, let me share with you what I have learned.

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a purified protein that belongs to a class of compounds known as neurotoxins. It was first approved by the FDA for the eye muscle disorders strabismus and belpharospasm in 1989 and has been used in other conditions where muscle hyperactivity is an underlying problem. The mechanism of action of Botox has been thought to be weakening or paralysis (depending on dose) of muscles by preventing the release of acetycholine, a signal that the nerves need to cause muscle contraction. This is the same substance which is produced in spoiled food and causes the illness known as botulism. However, in medical use, the Botox is injected directly into the muscles involved rather than absorbed into the bloodstream, and the doses used are much less than those which cause botulism. Because Botox is a neurotoxin, there are concerns about its safety. However, it has had a remarkable good record since its introduction in 1989. Because it is injected into muscle and not absorbed into the system, side effects that occur frequently with other migraine preventives, such as drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, and mental changes, are not seen with Botox. Some mild pain at the injection site for a day or two is about the only side effect our patients notice. Drooping of the eyelid is a common side effect but can usually be avoided by proper injection technique, and when it occurs, lasts only a few days.

So there you have it. However, I did more research, regarding the use of this on the treatment of migraines, and here’s what I found. The question the next paragraph aims to answer is the question on the use of Botox for migraines:

“Why does it work on migraines?”

Based on the mechanism of action of Botox, it is unlikely that anyone would have thought to try it for migraines. Its success in treating some patients has caused problems for those who would attempt to explain why it would work in migraine. One possibility is that muscle tension may act as a trigger for migraine in the same way that light and odors do. By reducing muscle tension, Botox would be eliminating an irritant to the nervous system, which would then reduce the chances of a migraine developing. More recently, studies have shown that Botox may affect other nerve cell signallng systems that have to do with the perception of pain. In an animal model of pain, injection of Botox under the skin resulted in decreased response to painful stimuli. Traditionally, scientists have thought that the pain of migraine was due to swelling and inflammation of blood vessels, but perhaps muscle tension is more of a factor than previously appreciated.

Equally important in considering the beneficial effects of Botox, one should also consider other concerns, such as safety issues. Currently, Botox is not approved by the FDA for headache treatment. The decision to use Botox should be based on a discussion with your physician. Failure to respond to standard migraine preventives or side effects from them should be an important consideration. Since the effect of Botox lasts about 3 months, one can weigh the costs of the injections versus the amount that would be spent on headache treatment during that time.

I do hope this little research of mine has given you an insight on this particular subject, I hope you have learned something useful. I know I have. :)

Warning: Weightlifting is dangerous to your health

Published by andoyitok under Blogging, Health and Fitness

Right. :)

That was the title of the post that immediately entered my mind (talk about being a blogging addict LOL) when I heard of the funny story recounted to me about our brother Andrew just this morning.

You see, Andrew has been on a mission to lose weight and he has been regularly working out as well as watching his diet in order to achieve it. Now, in the gym where he works out, an officemate of mine, Danny, also regularly works out there too. Danny’s is about 160lbs, and his build is nowhere close to the size of Andrew, who weighs around 210lbs. We have been teasing Andrew because his regular bench press load is just around 80lbs while that of Danny is around 120lbs.

Now here is where the funny part comes in. Continue Reading »

Asbestos Exposure Causes Cancer

Published by andoyitok under Blogging, Health and Fitness

Did you know that asbestos exposure can cause cancer? Furthermore, did you know that you can be exposed to asbestos right in your very own home?

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that occurs in individuals exposed to asbestos. Mesothelioma victims inhaled or swallowed asbestos fibers which then became lodged in the body. Because asbestos fibers are essentially indestructible, the body’s immune system is powerless to break them down. Mesothelioma, like all asbestos-related diseases, is a progressive disorder that, once it takes hold, severely compromises the body’s immune system as well as the particular areas where the malignancy originates from.

Sunburn, a summer malady

Published by borski under Health and Fitness

apo-island.JPGIf it’s summer time, it’s beach time!
A good number of people will be heading for the beach and lying on the sand, swimming their worries away in the sparkling crystal-blue seas or reading their stress away with their favorite book on the seashore. But like me, others will simply lay or sit by the shore, bask in the glorious heat of the sun and get a good tan. I would probably do my own shimmy to ABS-CBN’s cool summer jingle: “one team, one summer, one team, one summer, one…” (oh my, my hands seem to have a mind of their own when the jingle plays on my head. Ok, I’ll stop my singing there.*wink*) But be careful! Too much sun exposure can actually burn your skin.

Sunburn will result when one is overexposed to the ultraviolet radiation from the sun. The time it takes to sustain sunburn varies widely depending on the age of the person, skin color, geographical location, altitude, time of day, time of year, and environmental factors. Sunburn causes the skin to turn bright red, hot and itchy. It may result in a burning sensation in the affected area, and probably pain. After a few days though, the skin will begin to peel.

Before you head off for the beach this summer, the following tips are helpful to prevent a bad case of sunburn:

avoid too much sun, especially between 10 AM to 2 PM.
for maximum protection from the sun, apply sunscreen 45 minutes before you go outside.
use a lip balm with the sunscreen PABA to prevent sunburned lips.
wear UV-opaque sunglasses to protect your eyes.
some medications (e.g., doxycycline and sulfa antibiotics) can make you more sensitive and cause you to burn with little exposure to the sun. So ask your doctor about the possible reactions to sunlight before starting a medication.

Undeniably, it is always fun on the beach but it is important to be protected from the sun’s harmful rays as well. So make your summer getaway experience much more enjoyable by equipping your skin with proper protection!

Getting a Physical

Published by andoyitok under Blogging, Health and Fitness

Our company is pretty generous when speaking of benefits. Part of these benefits include the annual medical check up that we have. I think I will be availing of this early this year. I also have another health plan with Caritas and part of this health plan includes an annual medical check up too. So in a way, I can avail of 2 free annual medical checks each year. Cool isn’t it?

Anyways, from what I remember from my last physical, I had a complete blood work up, as well as a dental, urinalysis, fecalysis, and then off to the x-ray technician for the x-rays. Actually, there were two (2) x-ray technicians inside the room. Now, I have always been curious as to what course one has to take up to become an x ray technician, so I didn’t resist the urge to ask the attending xray technician where he finished his studies. Whereupon, he told me that he finished his studies in Cebu, but that he always checked upon new updates on the online xray technician information site.

We were quite caught up in the conversation that he almost forgot to ask me to remove my necklace..oooopps. Good thing he remembered, or else I would’ve been asked by the xray technician to do it again.

Sunscreens and Sun Blocks

Published by borski under Health and Fitness

Ahhh….summer is finally here! I guess people can get to feel this more, what with the continuing problem of global warming. I remember just last Sunday, the parish priest included this bit of information in an appeal to make the people more aware of the gravity of this situation.

On a more personal note, when speaking of summer, I can always remember or connect this to previous summers spent on beaches, with matching sunburns afterwards. I guess we do have products for that now, but back then, I wasn’t actually aware of such.

Sunscreens and sun blocks protect our skin by filtering out the UV rays that cause sunburn. A sunscreen of at least 15 is recommended. Make sure you apply sunscreen thoroughly to all exposed areas of the skin (be sure to apply sunscreen around eyes, ears, mouth and bald or thinning areas in your head), so you don’t leave unprotected areas that can burn. Apply it to dry skin and reapply after swimming or activities that make you sweat.

When you’re outside for a long period, reapply sunscreen often. Alternatively, a waterproof sunscreen will stay on until you rub or towel it off, at which time you’ll need to reapply it too. Because the sun’s rays are more intense at higher altitudes, nearer the equator and on the water, and can be reflected by sand, cement and water, we must protect ourselves with sunscreen. Thickly applied zinc oxide products block all the sun’s rays and are good for the nose and lips. In the same manner, use sunscreen even on cloudy days because the sun’s rays are always there and can always affect your skin even when the sun is behind thick clouds. UV rays can also penetrate through loosely woven clothing and beach umbrellas, so wear sunscreen even when using these other forms of sun protection.
