The egg or the chicken?

Published by andoyitok under Personal

I am in the crossroads. Not literally, though. Have you ever found yourself weighing your options and likening it to the analogy of the chicken and the egg? That is where I am precisely at right now. I am speaking in metaphors here. LoL.

Say you already have a chick, but at the same time, you have in your hands an egg, so full of potential. Whereas your chick is already right there before your eyes, your egg, however big it may be, is not 100% sure to hatch. So you are faced with a dilemma. The chick, or the egg? The egg could be that of an ostrich, and your full grown chicken would pale in comparison to that, right? I am finding it funny to think of it that way. Anyway, I am already quite tired from a day full of meetings. Time to rest. I leave you with a picture of what I am really trying to say. I found it funny. I hope you do too. :)

Healthy morning

Published by borski under Personal

The other Friday (15 January 2010), I started experiencing the onset of acute gastritis which lasted until Monday  (18 January 2010) morning. Adding up to the sickness hype is an on-and-off fever that signals an infection last Sunday (17 January 2010). The biggest blow came on the evening of the 18th, right after I’ve seen Dr. Walden and bought the antibiotic prescribed to me, wherein my fever reached 38.9°C at 8:00PM and stayed at that figure until 10:00PM, and the level of the pain in my throat reached 10 (10 being the highest). Drinking a glass of water was a feat, even the simple swallowing of saliva elicited pain (now imagine when I’m eating). Mommy visited me 30 minutes past 7:00PM and coaxed me in to having myself hospitalized but I did not budge, confident that the first antibiotic I drank will soon work its effect on my poor body. I’m thankful that Mylan, a college student at St. Paul University Dumaguete who lives with us, was there all the time to assist me on my needs (Thank you, Mylan!). I almost conceded that it might be a good idea after all to be hospitalized when my temperature reading only subsided to 38.8 at 10:00PM, almost. To cut the backgrounder short, my fever subsided at 2:00AM of Tuesday, I continued drinking my medication plus the womens vitamins (sic) on time and the rest is history.

I woke up this morning feeling fully recuperated. When you are sick and lying on your back on your bed resting, you can only wish you’re healthy as a horse. So this morning was full of gratefulness to God for healing me completely. I offered a silent prayer of thanks to Him for giving me back good health and made a mental note to do this every single day. Boy! You can just imagine my happiness waking up without the slightest headache, soreness of throat, and an indefinite feeling of lack of health!

Happy New Year to all!!!

Published by andoyitok under Personal

Another year has just passed. Oh how fast time flies by.

Earlier today, I sat in retrospect, looking at the year past, thinking of what I could have done better. For one, our blog has hibernated for the most part of the year, all thanks to our Facebook addiction. We had somehow lost the zest to update it on a regular basis. We haven’t been lacking on topics to blog about, from the profound to the mundane, everyday tidbits of life.

For the coming year, I do hope we can do a much better job at it. I guess we just have to set a goal, and keep focused on that goal. More along the lines of — setting our sights on what we want to accomplish, say..visualizing ourselves holding a DSLR camera, and imagining taking all sorts of beautiful pictures with it. LoL.

For now, I just wish everyone a Happy New Year. May 2010 bring forth more blessings to all!

Today is also the 35th year wedding anniversary of Dad Tony and Mama Carmen. We have also been blessed that they have chosen to celebrate their anniversary this year with us. I hope we have made it memorable in our own special way.

Shedding the Pounds

Published by andoyitok under Personal

As I have mentioned in the previous article, Borski and I have just come from our Manila escapade with Ace and Lyn. We had a great time just going around Metro Manila, with the itinerary including a trip to the PBB House, an MRT joyride, trips to MOA, Manila Ocean Park and foodtrips.

And about foodtrips, it amazed me how much control Kuya Ace has over his food intake. It makes me envious at the ability to resist “pigging out” (pardon the term..hehe). Well, from a perspective, I could always blame his loss of appetite on him not feeling well during most of the duration of the trip, but still, I hope I had the same self control. Anyway, I hope I can shed more pounds, which is gonna be a lot more difficult now that the Christmas holidays are just right around the corner. How I wish we have apidexin handy in our nearby drugstores. That way, I could get a boost in getting my metabolic rate up, which has significantly slowed now that I have reached the big three-0.

Grandmother’s Table

Published by borski under Personal

(adapted from the Grimm brothers)

This story may start to mean a great deal to us only when we get older. However, it is important that we learn from it while we are young.

A feeble old woman, whose husband died and left her all alone, went to live with her son and his wife and their own little daughter.

Everyday, the old woman’s sight dimmed and her hearing grew worse, and sometimes at dinner her hands trembled so badly the peas rolled off her spoon or the soup ran from her cup. The son and his wife could not help but be annoyed at the way she spilled her meal all over the table.

Until one day, after she knocked over a glass of milk, they told each other that enough is enough. They set up a small table for her in the corner next to the broom closet and made the old woman eat her meals there.

She sat all alone, looking with tear-filled eyes across the room at the others. They sometimes spoke to her while they ate, but usually it was to scold her for dropping a bowl or fork.

One evening just before dinner, the little girl was busy playing on the floor with her building blocks and her father asked her what she was making. The little girl replied, “I’m building a little table for you and mother,” she smiled, “so you can eat by yourselves in the corner someday when I get big.”

Her parents sat staring at her for some time and then suddenly both began to cry. That night, they led the old woman back to her place at the big table.

From then on, she ate with the rest of the family, and her son and wife never seemed to mind a bit when she spilled something every now and then.

At Last!!!

Published by andoyitok under Personal

After the long hiatus, I’ve managed to post on our blog. LoL. Lemme see..what have we been so busy on that we haven’t had time to update our blog..hehe.

I guess it is a combination of a lot of things, but mainly on our Facebook addiction.. :)

Anyway, it has been such a loooooong time since our last post and I’m sure the blog can use some much needed attention and I am here to wipe the dust off of it. LoL. Righ now, I am at a CoffeeBean coffee shop at Bonifacio High Street, enjoying the free Wifi that comes with a cup of Mocha Latte. :)

So what have we been up to? Hmmmm..I’ve been quite busy with work and was posted in Ormoc, Leyte for the most part of the year, being posted there from January until last week, wherein I was already told to report to our head office at Global City, Taguig.

Early this year, we have had the opportunity to go scuba diving and it was a blast. I hope to be able to post photos of the experience, and it was all thanks to Borski for setting it up. The last I heard her talk of it, I think she is contemplating on getting an Open Water Diving License. Anyway, that isn’t such a bad idea, and I hope to be able to get one also.

Anyway, Borski has already resigned from her work as Copyediting Group Head, and will only be working there until the 10th of July. Hopefully, with this change, she will be able to do away with the long hours and the work-related stress. :)
And oh, by the way, this post is largely also due to the coercion of Borski and Ray for the addition of another post, but needless to say, I really miss blogging. LoL. I’ll be posting more updates soon (fingers crossed).

Cheers! :)

Needed Workout

Published by borski under Personal

It’s always nice to receive a call from a loved one. Although once cannot enjoy the face-to-face conversation, the emotions conveyed through the caller’s voice will tell the receiver of the call the laughter, happiness, sadness, exhilaration, excitement, or anger he is feeling.

Last night, Ian told me he gained a few pounds judging by the increase in inches around his waist. Oh! Oh! He said that this is due to his lack of exercise because of his tight field-home-field schedule. This, coupled with the sumptuous free meals served at their mess hall, surely helped compound his already exercise-deprived lifestyle.  I can hear the determination in his voice when he said he will try his best to shed  at least 2 pounds for starters.

Given his situation, I think that he should indulge on home-based exercises instead. The incline training offered and the Incline Trainer X3 used by Jillian Michaels may just be as effective for him as it was for others.  With this, he does not need to go out of the comfort of the home to burn some calories.   For all those  busy career men and women reading this, this may just be what you need too!   So, go on and click the link above. ;o)

In sickness and in health…

Published by andoyitok under Personal

We’ve just been married! :) Last October 11 to be exact.

In fact, we were so happy that Borski’s immediate family was there, complete, as well as aunts and uncle from Siquijor, Cebu, and Liloy. It was just too bad though that her Lola from her father’s side suddenly got down sick and was not able to come. I am sure she was looking forward to this day for months, after all, she was also here in Dumaguete when we got engaged.

We haven’t been able to post earlier, since you could just imagine how hectic and toxic it can become taking care of things leading up to the wedding, not to mention during the wedding proper itself.

Anyway, with regards to the title, I chose it because it seemed so apt, with both of us being down with the flu and not feeling well. Borski actually jokingly mentioned that we started our married life together being sick.

To which I replied, perhaps there is a reason why sickness comes before health in the marriage vows “..in sickness and in health…,” and not the other way around.

Anyway, we hope to get better soon, as we are leaving for Bora on the 15th…yahoo!!!

p.s. we hope to be able to post pics in here of the event.. :)
