8G Marketing, a family-owned business, is in the process of normalising the already set up computerized accounting system. The system albeit a little “basic” (old version), as shown during the orientation and training, really eases the load on recording and generation of reports. Hey! One can always upgrade the version so no problem on that one.
To go with the automation, a new Epson LX300+II dot matrix printer was bought for easier printing compatibility and to save a big chunk of amount on the printing budget since the ribbon refill only costs Php 68.00 in one of the local computer suppliers here in the city (Brother ink cartridges are just way absurdly charged — Black: Php 995.00–1,050.00, Cyan/Magenta/Yellow: Php 495.00–595.00; same is true with HP but their ink cartridges are a little bit lower in cost than that of the Brother’s). We’ve also placed “to automate receipt generation from manual handwriting” as one of the items in our future plans (perhaps after the accounting computerization system is fully implemented), and a good Epson receipt printer will serve that purpose. Phase by phase, we’re getting nearer to the “real time reports” status, which is crucial in decision-making. The real work this time falls on us, the persons who are the end-users of the system. I just hope we can master the flow and fully maximize the use of the system as soon as possible.

In my 3 decades of enjoying God’s gift of life, I have had the pleasure to rub elbows with persons whose experience, hobby, or work has shaped my attitude, careers and positive outlook on life. I would also like to acknowledge the fact that I would not be able to make the decisions I have made and will still make had I not received the teachings lovingly and painstakingly instilled to me by my DadMa in the course of living their lives as an example and the words shared to us during happy conversations over meals or hurtful admonitions when we’ve done something wrong. In my young mind in the past years, those seemingly unimportant teachings before are now the most treasured as how valued certified diamonds are to women.
In my humble opinion, parents prepare us to face the real world but it is our decisions that make us the person we are now. Hence, make the right decisions because when we do, we make God, our parents, and ourselves proud. So for a more meaningful life, seek God, live each day trying the best we could to be pleasing in God’s eyes, learn from failures, and find others with similar values.

It is a weekend once again. I have a lot of deadlines to beat (as usual). But one thing better about today than any other day while I am here at our head office, is the fact that I get to play badminton today. Yey!

Our environment generally shapes who we are. The culture we have been borne into would somehow dictate how we should act, and it is there that we define what is within the bounds of ‘normal’ and what is not.
Just recently, Frank, a friend of mine and someone who I am constantly in contact with in the conduct of my job had welcomed a new addition to his family, a bouncing baby girl.
I don’t know about the cultures from other countries, but it is not common practice here in the Philippines for new dads to hand out Davidoff cigars, as was suddenly the case when another friend, Jay, began chiding him to hand out cigars, in celebration of this welcome development. Of course, another important aspect to consider would be that Frank is Chinese, and Jay is an American. Perhaps where they come from, this is perfectly the norm.

Recently, in the place where we stay, which is being provided by our company, my companions and I have noticed that the mosquitos were increasing in numbers and was making it really uncomfortable to sleep at night, especially if your blanket falls off while you are deep in slumber.
To address this, one of my companions sprayed mosquito repellent. He sprayed too much of it in fact that after he did so, we had to face the possibility that we had to stay out of our room for the night as the mosquito repellent’s stench was too strong for our senses. We ended up opening the door of our room to let the stench out since we did not have any other means of home ventilation.
If the problem still doesn’t get solved, I am suggesting we buy an electric mosquito killer instead.

I am in the crossroads. Not literally, though. Have you ever found yourself weighing your options and likening it to the analogy of the chicken and the egg? That is where I am precisely at right now. I am speaking in metaphors here. LoL.
Say you already have a chick, but at the same time, you have in your hands an egg, so full of potential. Whereas your chick is already right there before your eyes, your egg, however big it may be, is not 100% sure to hatch. So you are faced with a dilemma. The chick, or the egg? The egg could be that of an ostrich, and your full grown chicken would pale in comparison to that, right? I am finding it funny to think of it that way. Anyway, I am already quite tired from a day full of meetings. Time to rest. I leave you with a picture of what I am really trying to say. I found it funny. I hope you do too.

Last December of the year passed, as is customary and part of the yearly Christmas tradition, our company had our Christmas party at the function/activity lounge (if that is the right term?) of the condo of our boss somewhere in Makati. The party was complete with the overflowing food and drinks, and also had a light atmosphere as we partook in the games and got to know better our other companions in our department.
During the gift exchanging, with our gift value pegged at PhP350, I bought a mug from Starbucks and was wondering and somewhat excited in anticipation of whatever gift I may receive before the evening was over. Guess what I got? A PhP300 gift certificate at Power Books. The coupon is still valid until December of this year, and I haven’t quite identified yet what I want to get with the coupon. I guess I can get additional ideas online from Amazon books. I’ll try and check out from their list of best sellers and hopefully find something worth spending my Christmas gift..hmmm..I wonder if, by any chance, they happen to have a DSLR on there. LoL.

I have been meaning to blog in a long time. And I mean a loooong time. So much has happened recently that I have a lot of stuff going on in my head that I so wanna write about and express my thoughts but I have been quite busy the past few days. I have been doing quite a lot of travelling too.
Still vivid in my imagination last Monday of the previous week, the incident wherein I witnessed with my own eyes, when the crane we were using at work attempted to lift a 10-ton weight. The crane capacity was at 45 tons, so the confident operator was probably lax and was not anticipating any potential problem. However, as the hoisting line already tightened and already was in tension, the crane suddenly tilted to its side, prompting the operator to panic and release the load hoisted by the crane. This caused the load to drop on top of another piece of equipment and toppled to its side, almost hitting the nearby steamlines. All the people who were in the vicinity scampered about for their safety and it was a good thing that no one was hurt. But still it got the adrenaline pumping throughout my body.
While looking at the sight, I was suddenly imagining all sorts of possibilities that could have happened and was thankful that we were still quite lucky since this accident could easily have resulted to a fatality, as well as it could have resulted to a substantial amount of property and environmental damage had it hit and severed the surrounding steamlines. It also got me to wondering if some of the guys were covered with updated insurance policies or if they ever evaluated the option to avail of insurance online. Because in just a snap of a finger, everything could change then and there.
