The Alsatian

Published by andoyitok at 12:11 pm under Pets

A term for the German Shepherd Dog which was invented during World War I, Alsace being a region disputed by France and Germany, as a euphemism for German.

…copied that bit off of Wikipedia..

Actually, Borski and I were thinking of a way how to introduce our very gentle and “malambing” Kobe to you guys. He is about 4 years old already, and is such a joy to have around us. For those of you not familiar with the breed, the German Shepherd was originally bred for herding sheep and to this day, remains one of the most popular breeds in the UK and the USA. They can also be found working as guide dogs for the blind, police work, guarding, search and rescue, therapy and in the military. Despite their suitability for such work, German Shepherds can also make loyal and loving pets inside the home. They enjoy being around people and other animals, although socialization is critical for young puppies in order to prevent aggressive and dangerous behavior as an adult. German Shepherds are well-suited to obedience.

I remember a friend of mine who had been so stressed out at work tell me that he was advised by a doctor to find somewhat of an avenue for stress relief. He had a small farm and I think he bought some farm animals, turkeys and some chickens as his way of stress relief. For me, Kobe would be it. He loves to have his coat stroked, and I personally enjoy combing his coat to also remove the part of his coat that he already shed. He sheds all year round so I try and brush him every chance I get.

He never fails to brighten our day with his antics and he always has a way of making us feel that the day is not so bad after all. Part of his repertoire of tricks that I was able to teach him was the basic sit, come, down, and shake commands. Didn’t get much success on teaching him how to fetch though..hehehe. We hope to be able to post more of Kobe here so that you guys can get to know him as well.

Here he is..

On another happy note, I received another check yesterday, the second time I received cash dividends from a little stock investment I made last year. It was really a good investment as the value of the stock has more than doubled from its initial price when I made the investment. Yey! Wasn’t able to deposit it yesterday though as I slept immediately when I got home from work in the morning and didn’t wake up till it was already after banking hours. I will probably do that first thing Monday.

He is a beautiful dog. My husband and his family are fond of German Shepherds too. I’m a bit intimidated by them so when we got married, I chose to get a Labrador instead. Although I feel quite intimidated by German Shepherds, I realized that they are a loyal and intelligent breed.
