Gentle no more..

Published by andoyitok at 4:34 pm under Thinking out loud

Just came from the port area. Was there the send off Borski’s parents as they will be spending the next 2 nights in Siquijor. Yup, they were here since last Tuesday I think and I arrived in Dumaguete last Thursday too for my 6 days straight days off. Ummm, there is this bit of development which I am absolutely excited about, which I will announce in due time..hehehe..for now, we’ll keep you all in the dark.

As many of you guys probably know, cities have their monicker too. And Dumaguete has been called the City of Gentle People. Rightly so because many people are drawn to retire in this university town due to its relaxed pace and serene atmosphere.

Back to the port area. While we were passing by, we noticed that the usual busy business atmosphere at the port was not as usual. This was due to the fact that the workers there are holding a strike. They are not allowing big trucks in the hope of crippling the business activity of the ports and in effect, so that they would be able to convey their sentiments more effectively. The situation there is tense and while we were passing by, many people were shouting and running about. I think we passed by a huddle of people around one person who I think was hit by rocks thrown. We hurriedly made our way to the secure passenger terminal. Passing by the gate, we asked the guard what was up, to which he hurriedly replied that we should make our way inside as the situation is critical and we might get hit by stones. The guards, numbering about 10 were all carrying “arnis” sticks. Later on, we heard that earlier, there was even a shooting incident including the guards and the striking party. This just served to make us more uneasy as violence could have erupted while we were making our way inside the port area.

Anyway, as i was looking at the scenes…ding! a tiny lightbulb in my head lit up..and then the realization that the soldier once again went into battle without his gun..lol..i forgot my digicam..tsk tsk..so much for capturing it all in pictures. Anyway, I made a mental note to go home and get my digicam. But, as you may probably relate, the lazy ass in me won over..hehe..I guess I’ll just write about it nalang instead..hehehe..if I ever get a chance to pass by the port area later, I hope to be able to get some snapshots so I could show you the situation there. And I do hope no one was killed during the shooting earlier.

Off topic: I got a haircut yesterday. Haven’t had one in about 6 months or so. Borski told me I looked better with a clean cut. Hehehe..it certainly feels a lot better :)
